QuikScat Satellite Failure
Once again the news is full of hurricane calamity. It's almost as if media are working for Global Weather Solutions in promoting awareness.
The QuikScat satellite, used to measure wind strength and direction over the open ocean mentioned elsewhere on this site could stop functioning at any time due to a failure of its backup transmitter, its only link to earth. At this time any replacement has been delayed until 2016 leaving us with less accurate data reports. This will increase the so-called cone of probability familiar to devotees of the NOAA weather web site and might result in less accurate decisions regarding evacuation. The millions spent there might be better used to launch a new satellite. Government seems to have other things on its mind today. I'll let you decide on what. What's a born-again passive aggressive to do?
If and when governmental forecasts fail Hurricane Finder may be the only thing left for an increasingly less patient public. Hurricane Finder may save your life when forecasts fail and fail they will for one reason or another.
More later on this subject. Keep tuned.
