                               EARTH ABIDES?

Note the question mark on the above caption.  At this point I still think Earth will continue beyond Man's influence but whether it will be changed to the point that life will be compromised is not something I'm qualified to answer.

When I came across The Global Warming Test I thought it could be used as an educational tool.  While examining what it said I began to doubt the test's veracity.

While all of the answers are correct the questions are pointed toward debunking global warming as a threat.  The test is suspect due to what it doesn't ask

One of the tools used in the test is questioning the ability of  those who think there is a problem with climate change, those who might have represented themselves as scientists or who the authors of the test characterized as scientists.

It was interesting to find that one of the authors of The Global Warming Test itself is a mining engineer who is affiliated with the coal mining industry and has a website on plant fossils, while these are worthy enterprises it doesn't make him an expert on weather, and what of his motives?  Coal burning is one of the principal villains in the climate change issue.  I'm afraid the plot thins in his scenario.

You're probably thinking what my own credentials are regarding climatology.  In keeping with my pledge of honesty, I am not a weather scientist.  However,I do have three college degrees, BS in biology, MS in marine biology and a post masters professional diploma in educational administration.  I have published dozens of text materials on biology related topics and have authored articles and books on marine issues.

I have served as the weather man for The Northwest Caribbean Radio Net when I was in Mexico advising boaters from the Gulf Coast to Panama.  I am also a life-long sailor who's spent the last decade and a half learning how to dodge hurricanes.

I write about weather because it interests me and by doing so increase the scope of this site in the hope readers will look at other things offered here.

If you've perused elsewhere on this site you also know I've designed Hurricane Finder a device that tracks the hurricane's eye and paints a picture of the storm days before the storm's arrival so those in its path can prepare for specific conditions such as wind direction and strength and can predict flooding from data gleaned with the instrument.  Hurricane Finder may save your life when electronics fail.

                           I WAS A CANDIDATE

Both sides of the climate change debate have produced lists of folks who believe or disbelieve Earth is in trouble to sway public interest one way or the other.  You may be surprised that I was solicited as a candidate for one of the current lists of four hundred scientists who deny the existence of a global climate change threat or its cause.

Mr. Marc Morano e-mailed me after reading some of these articles and queried me as to my scientific credentials.  He wrote:

                                            MARC MORANO

I Googled Marc Morano and supply the above pics as reference.  He's had a varied career in Journalism, media and now works for a minority senate committee on climate change.  See below for particulars.

Marc Morano Communications Director Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW) Inhofe Staff 202-224-5762, 202-224-5167 (fax)    marc_morano@epw.senate.gov  www.epw.senate.gov

After I perused his materials from the above link we exchanged several messages in which I informed him that while I had an interest in climatology was not an expert and probably not what he was looking for.  We have become Internet friends and he continues to send me materials.

Marc Morano replied:

Thanks John. I am looking for scientists who have studied the weather to continue to add to the U.S. Senate report on scientists skeptical of warming fears. I am looking for scientists who studied climate change and have credentials in that field to add to this report: .
http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.SenateReport I thought maybe you were a weather/hurricane expert.

I appreciate your openness.  I do enjoy your site.
Thanks

THE LEARNING SPACE, THE OPEN UNIVERSITY

With this in mind I've begun to question my credibility to opine on global climate change and while perusing the Internet for information came upon The Learning Space, an on-line university free to all.  I have enrolled in course No. s250_3, titled Climate Change.  I'll let you know what I've learned.

The problem with much of what can be gleaned from "experts" is their particular bias, their hidden agendas.  Do they work for industry, the media, government, are they politicians, what is their affiliation and how does it affect their viewpoint?  I'm hoping this university course lacks bias and will supply straight scientific material for me to make decisions.

I suggest you do the same.  Take a course before you come to any conclusions and think of your own bias and eradicate those hidden agendas before you make decisions.  Strangely our own hidden agendas can also be hidden from ourselves.

That's that for this.  Enjoy Frannie.  This is a wider view which shows where NEREIS and I are currently moored at The Cape Coral Yacht Club.
